A Night of Jazz Concert & Fundraiser

“Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.” – Yo-Yo Ma

Celebration High School is certainly doing its part to enhance our children’s education through music. Under the direction of Tyler Kirby, the band program is thriving with 110 students participating in Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and The Sound of the Storm Marching Band. The band performs annually in front of thousands of people at football games, concerts and special performances. As you can imagine, there are significant costs associated with running a successful band program – costs more than the school’s budget.

Community support is important which has brought about the formation of the CHS Band Boosters. This non-profit organization will assist the band program in raising necessary funds from local businesses, groups, and individuals through a new Band Sponsorship program.

Come out and support the band on Saturday, May 14 for a Night of Jazz Concert, 6:30 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church. Tickets are on sale now for $15 and will include a signature dessert and mocktail at intermission. This concert will be the first of what the Band Boosters hope to be an annual fundraising event. The band’s Jazz Ensemble will be performing many standards that anyone will recognize! Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and many others. In addition, the band will be joined by the Ryan Devlin Quartet. Influenced by the post John Coltrane 1970s modal jazz movement and directly by the Elvin Jones Live at the Lighthouse Band, Ryan and his quartet bring a newfound fire inspired by jazz heroes of the 60’s and 70’s.

The Celebration High School Jazz Ensemble is comprised of the top students in the Celebration High School Band Program. The CHS Jazz Ensemble is made up of students from all grade levels, some of whom have been performing jazz since the seventh grade. This ensemble offers a different way for these students to express themselves musically. It gives them the opportunity to perform music outside of the normal band class setting. The CHS Jazz Ensemble consistently receives straight superior ratings at the Osceola County Music Performance Assessment each year.

The Band Boosters are thrilled that Celebration Pediatrics & Celebration Obstetrics & Gynecology will be sponsoring this initial fundraising event. They have been true philanthropists in this community for over 20 years and have a history of contributing to the arts and education.
