Celebration Irish Dancers enjoy success at US Open

Sep 22, 2022

The past 18 months have been tough for youth competitive sports and recreational activities.

After raising an impressive $16,000 to send a troupe of dancers to Ireland in spring 2020, Central Florida Irish Dance students have been waiting for that day to come, when they can take the stage in Ireland, to compete in the coveted World Championships. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic they are still waiting for that big day, but 2021 has saw a glimmer of hope with the return of in-person Irish Dance Competitions.

Celebration Resident Irish Dancers Kiley Baker, Adison Rose Schlauder and Wendy Hays along with eight of their fellow Irish Dancers from Central Florida Irish Dance all safely travelled to Atlantic City, NJ earlier this summer to take part in the US Open Irish Dance Championships 2021.

The group came home with many trophies and medals and the school was proud to have two US Open Champions, with Emily Thomas taking the U12 Title and Kiley Baker placing Top 5 in the U11 section! A huge achievement for such young dancers and a great experience for all involved.

Central Florida Irish Dance is headed into its eighth year of teaching in Celebration as part of the parks and recreation program at Town Hall.  Classes are Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and taught by Irish Native and Celebration Resident Sarah Costello.
