Coyote Sightings in the Community

Jan 18, 2022

Dear Residents,

Recently the community has seen an uptick in sightings and in some cases, encounters, with coyotes.

Encounters between people and coyotes in Florida are occurring more often. As coyotes become used to people, they may lose some fear of people, so sightings during the day may increase. Coyotes also become more difficult to scare away if they lose fear of people.

Coyote attacks on dogs and cats have been reported in Florida, however, unprovoked attacks on humans are very rare.

This past weekend the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was contacted due to an encounter with a pet in Celebration. Officials with the FWC have asked that the following information be disseminated to inform and educate the community.
