November traditionally brings a salute to the troops. We are fortunate to know so many wonderful veterans in Celebration and surrounding areas. The Veterans Club of Celebration now has about one hundred members, including vets from the World War II era through the Korean Conflict, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and on to today. Our favorite Seabee, Petty Officer Second Class Carl Abinuman, is actually on active duty now in Africa. Keep him and all the rest of our service members in your thoughts and prayers. Any honorably discharged veteran is eligible to join our ranks. Please contact Vice Commander Bill Boyle at 845-551-2213 for more information.
This month we look forward to Veterans Day, which also marks the fourteen-year anniversary of the club’s start. Watch for us in the Founders Day Parade on November 13, from Lakeside to Founders Park. We are happy to hear your greetings and see your waves.
Again, this holiday season, the Veterans Club is promoting the Celebration Holiday Decorating Contest. Judging will take place on approximately December 12, with winners to be announced on December 15. To enter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and provide your address and the type of property, for example, bungalow, apartment, estate home, etc. Entries must be received by December 8 and there are no entry fees. Winners of each category will be published in the Friday Flash, Town Hall social media channels and on Facebook Back Porch, and bragging rights for their accomplishments. Please note that Celebration residents can begin decorating 40 days before the holiday. Let’s see that home town holiday spirit!
