On Friday, February 28, Women’s Initiative Nurturing Girls’ Strength (WINGS) had our last Power Lunch of this school year for Celebration K-8 middle schoolers. This time, the topic discussed was bullying. As students sat down for lunch, we asked them to work with others at their table to create two lists: one was a list of what bullying is and the other was a list of what bullying is not. In order to prevent and stop bullying, you have to understand what it is. Sometimes, bullying can be hidden, and you don’t immediately understand that you are being bullied.
We then handed each table a stack of bullying/non-bullying scenarios. Students had to work in teams to determine whether the scenario was considered bullying or not. School counselors then went through each scenario and asked students for their input. It was enlightening for both students and adults to hear students’ version of what they thought was bullying and why they thought so.
A special thank you to Cindy Bohn of Kabloom for sponsoring the Power Lunch! WINGS is looking forward to wrapping up this school year with our annual Power Breakfast held in April. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering for this event, please call the Celebration Foundation office at 407-566-1234 or email email@example.com.
Celebration Foundation’s WINGS program was created to explore ways in which girls and women can reach their highest potential. Goal setting, leadership qualities, and positive self-image are some of the topics explored through Power Lunches, done in partnership with Celebration K-8 School, and regional events.
