Jun 24, 2025

The School District of Osceola County is pleased to share the following announcement from the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA):

Tampa, FL – Over 420 school board members, superintendents, and education leaders attended the FSBA/FADSS Annual Summer Conference for three days of leadership development, networking, and training.

The theme of the conference, Lights, Camera, Leadership, featured Matt Lehrman, Managing Director, Social Prosperity Partners. School board members and superintendents gained valuable tools in transforming tension into productive dialogue during the “From Conflict to Conversation” keynote session which emphasized that disagreement, when approached intentionally, can drive progress. Attendees walked away with practical communication techniques to engage differing viewpoints, build consensus, and keep the focus on what matters most–serving students and increasing student achievement.

The conference closed with the keynote address, “Strategic Planning: Shaping the Future with Purpose and Vision,” presented by former FSBA President Tim Weisheyer. Attendees explored the vital role of strategic planning in shaping the future of public education. The session provided a high-level overview of the planning process, highlighting the value of clear milestones, inclusive engagement, and strategic alignment. Participants walked away with a stronger grasp of how thoughtful planning transforms vision into action and how their voices help drive meaningful, lasting change in their districts.
As CEO of Florida School Boards Association, Andrea Messina emphasizes the benefits of the Annual Summer Conference, saying, “This conference empowers our members to think bigger and lead smarter. School board members gain strategic insight, shared innovation, and real-world solutions. It is more than a professional gathering. It is a catalyst for stronger governance and better outcomes for students across Florida.”

The conference also featured a legislative session review presented by Dr. Danielle Thomas, FSBA Director of Advocacy & Legislative Services, and focused on the biggest education topics of the 2025 Legislative Session, including school safety and school start times. In addition to the keynote presentations, legislative session review, and breakout sessions, the associations also conducted annual business meetings.

During the FSBA General Membership Meeting, Orange County School Board Member Angie Gallo was elected President of the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) and was sworn in with three other school board members. Allison Campbell (Marion) will serve as President-Elect, while Heather Kahoun (Osceola) will serve as Vice President, and Justin Sharpless (Polk) will serve as Treasurer.

“I’m honored to serve as Vice President of FSBA and continue Osceola County’s strong legacy of leadership within the association. Our school board has a proud history of contributing to FSBA’s mission, with former board member Tim Weisheyer having served as President and current Vice-Chair Terry Castillo also serving on the FSBA executive leadership team. This tradition reflects our deep commitment to advancing public education not just in Osceola County, but across Florida, and I look forward to working with my fellow officers to support school boards statewide in their vital work of serving our students and communities.”

In addition to these four officers, Tim Bryant (Okaloosa) having served as President last year, will serve as Immediate Past President. The 2025-2026 Executive Officers will lead the Association’s effort in meeting its mission to increase student achievement through the development of effective school board leadership and advocacy for public education.
