Spotlight on Principal Gary Weeden
As the new school year unfolds at Celebration K-8, the Celebration community is proud to spotlight Principal Gary Weeden and his dedication to education and leadership.
Weeden’s journey in Celebration began in 1997 at the newly opened Celebration K-12 School, where he served as the athletic director. Encouraged by former principal John Bushey, he pursued school leadership and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Stetson University’s Celebration campus. His career path included eight years as assistant principal at Celebration High School, followed by principal roles at Kissimmee and Narcoossee Middle Schools, before ultimately returning to Celebration K-8.
For Principal Weeden, returning to Celebration K-8 truly feels like coming home. He describes the experience as meaningful and energizing, excited to be part of a community where he hopes to remain for many years.
Celebration K-8 itself is no stranger to success. With an A rating for 23 consecutive years, the school has built a reputation for academic excellence. Under Weeden’s leadership, that growth continues—last year’s gains across all grade components show just how committed the school is to providing top-quality education for every student.
But what really sets Celebration K-8 apart is its spirit. In Weeden’s words, it’s “a throwback to what community schools used to be.” The PTA, School Advisory Council, and countless volunteers—many without children in the school—play a huge role in supporting the school’s mission. Local businesses, organizations, and churches also pitch in, making the school a true reflection of the town’s values.
Beyond the classroom, Celebration K-8 is a hub for youth clubs, community events, and lifelong connections. Alumni often return to stay involved, reinforcing the school’s role as a central pillar of town life and a gathering place for generations.
At the heart of this success is the dedication of the educators. Principal Weeden often emphasizes how much the teachers and staff love and care for their students. Their passion for both teaching and nurturing young learners makes Celebration K-8 an extraordinary place for growth.
With Principal Gary Weeden’s leadership, the commitment of educators, and the support of the community, Celebration K-8 continues to be a cornerstone of education and community spirit in our town.
