Boy Scouts cancel beloved Celebration tradition

Sep 22, 2022

For the past fifteen years, Boy Scout Troop 125 of Celebration has hosted an Italian Dinner.  Not only was it a gathering for good food and entertainment, it was an opportunity for community camaraderie.  This event allowed the residents of Celebration to meet the Scouts and personally experience their commitment to service, and it gave the Scouts the opportunity to practice their hospitality skills. The troop had relied on the annual dinner as its singular fundraising event.  Unfortunately, conditions this year have forced us to cancel what has become a Celebration tradition.

Since last year’s Italian Dinner, Troop 125 activities continued, albeit with modified conditions and safety protocols.  Scouts continued to work on advancement and merit badge skills, assisted the town’s flag changing ceremonies and jointly conducted the annual Scouting for Food Drive with Cub Scout Pack 125 benefitting local families in need.  Unfortunately, since many scouting activities were curtailed including most camping outings, many families were forced to make the decision to suspend scouting.   However, our financial obligations, including the annual recharter obligation, remain and have actually increased.  While hopes were high to host the 16th annual Italian Dinner this year, to boost community morale and our troop’s finances, we simply cannot.

Boy Scout Troop 125 remains committed to being an active part of the Celebration community.  This was a difficult decision but we look forward to hosting you again at a time when we can enjoy this tradition safely.  In the meantime, if you would like to ensure that Scouting remains a pillar in the Celebration community, we invite you to consider contributing to our operating fund.
