Free pickleball clinic wildly successful

Sep 22, 2022

Since its inception in October 2021, the free beginner pickleball clinics offered to Celebration residents and their guests have proven wildly successful. Led by Harry Sauter, one of the founding members of Celebration Pickleball, the Pickleball clinic is held on Monday’s between 8:30 – 10 a.m. The clinic is broken down into individuals who have never played the game before and new players who are ready for slightly more advanced instruction. Brand new players learn the rules of the game, basic strokes and fundamentals. By the end of a player’s first session, they are playing competitive games. Returning players are coached by our experienced club members who run them through drills designed to reinforce the rules and continue to develop their skills. They also play games where the coaches provide further instruction on the rules, skills and strategies.

In the period between October 11 and the end of February, 115 people have signed up for the clinic. Space is limited on our four courts, we allow 4 to 6 players per coach, per court, for the best learning experience.

Pickleball combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. It is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes and can be played as doubles or singles. Pickleball is fun, social and friendly. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.
