Garden Club blossoming into new year

Sep 22, 2022

Welcome to the start of a new year for the Garden Club of Celebration. After a crazy last few months spent behind doors and masks, we hope this new year offers us some opportunity to have fun and educate ourselves once again. Gardening is a great outdoor activity that we can all participate in during this challenging time.

Everything grows in Florida!

Many of our end of the year activities were canceled in March and April due to the virus but we did have a few activities.  Our club board is announcing the winners of four $1000 college scholarships to the following Celebration High School seniors. Congratulations to:

  • Gabriel Hernandez – Valencia College
  • Amanda Hoffman – Valencia College
  • Ronin Lupien – Univ. of Florida
  • Hafsa Quaakki – Univ. of Florida

All winners will be majoring in science related fields.

The club presented a memorial wreath at the annual Memorial Day flag ceremony to commemorate those men and women that gave their lives in service to our country. The wreath was presented by Marge Hudec and then donated to Windsor at Celebration.

This fall we have some great meetings planned.  We hope to have live meetings but are setting them all up to be Zoom meetings initially.

Cody-Marie Miller, from the Disney Wilderness Preserve, will present for our opening meeting on Wednesday, September 16.  She is an expert on invasive species in Florida and will discuss issues our Florida environment faces due to these invaders.

The club will once again have work sessions in the fall and spring to enhance the K-8 school grounds and the town’s Memorial Gardens.

If you would like to join our friendly club, get in touch with Rita Roberts at rjferndale@yahoo.com.  You can also join us on our website at www.celebrationgardenclub.org or just come along to our first meeting held at Heritage Hall. We also have a Facebook page.
