Library offers up range of activities and programs

The West Osceola Library is hosting some exciting programs for the month of April!

Adults can get crafty at “Saturday Crafternoon,” held the second and fourth Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. This program features a fun and creative craft that you can make with your friends and family, then take home and enjoy. Celebrate National Pet Day on April 9 by decorating or “up-cycling” a special jar for treats. On April 23, create a book-inspired “Novel-ty” necklace in honor of National Library Month. Supplies are provided at both Saturday Crafternoons.

If you’re not interested in creating crafts, we have programs for book lovers! On April 16 at 6 p.m. the library is hosting “Potterverse Would You Rather?” which will challenge you with questions like “Would you rather meet Moaning Myrtle in the bathroom or a Grindylow in the lake?” and ignite some thoughtful discussion on the beloved Harry Potter series. In honor of Charlotte Bronte’s birthday, on April 21 at 6 p.m. we are creating ribbon bookmarks inspired by her classic novels while also delving into the legacy that she has left behind in literature.

The library is the place to be in April for kid-friendly programs. Every Tuesday morning, join us for twice the fun with two story times for your little ones, with special stories and songs for toddlers at 10 a.m. and babies at 11 a.m. If you have a young adult at home, send them down to the library to solve Rubic Cube puzzles with the C3 Cubing Club that meets on Tuesday afternoons at 5 p.m. All skills are welcome! On Wednesday mornings at Library opening, the School District of Osceola brings their READ Bus equipped with resources to engage parents of pre-school age children and toddlers with activities to develop their early literacy skills. Most Wednesday afternoons at 4:30 p.m., we host a fun-filled after-school program that sneaks in the learning with hands-on STEAM activities.

If you’re having trouble with your computer or just don’t know where to start with that new phone, the Adult Services Librarian is here to help with technology classes every week. The library also has a Book a Librarian service where you can schedule an appointment with the Adult Services Librarian to give you the one-on-one help to solve your technology dilemmas or answer any reference question you may have. Book a Librarian is available Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

In addition to these exciting programs, the library is partnering with the Adult Literacy League to host E.S.O.L. (English as a Second Language) Conversation Hour every Friday at 10 a.m. This is a great opportunity to become more familiar with the English language and meet new people.
